Sammy Hagar and The Circle will be releasing their new album on September 30th. It’s called Crazy Times and features ten new songs including a cover of an old Elvis Costello song called “Pump it Up.” Hagar also released a video for the song, done in the same style as Costello did in 1978.
The big difference in the recording is Hagar doesn’t have Michael Anthony start it off with the iconic bass riff that Bruce Thomas did on the original, and, there is no organ.
“We went in the studio with six songs and came out with 10,” says Hagar. “We ended up co-writing three songs with [producer] Dave Cobb and he played rhythm guitar on every track. ‘Pump it Up’ was a surprise, that when we played back we all went ‘that sounds great’.” Hagar & The Circle have done the song many times backstage before their shows.
