Stearns will remain with the organization as a special consultant to owner Mark Attanasio. Stearns had been rumored to be a candidate for General Manager of the New York Mets.
He had come under fire this year for the trade of closer Josh Hader to San Diego, which led to a tailspin on the field and the Brewers missing the playoffs for the first time in five years. General Manager Matt Arnold will take over as President of Baseball Operations.
