A mystery is afoot… or ahoof in this peculiar case.
For about two weeks now, sheep in the northern Mongolian region of China have been walking in an impeccably perfect circle.
It started with a few sheep doing it before the rest of the herd joined in (like sheep tend to do) and just kept the counter-clockwise motion going for over two weeks now. There’s no real scientific explanation for this behavior other than a possible infection from a bacteria that causes a condition known as listeriosis – which has neurological affects sometimes causing animals to walk in a circle. But animals stricken with listeriosis usually die within a couple days and this is going on almost three weeks of circling with no deaths – just healthy circling sheep.
