We are proud to name as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show Weenies of the Week…the Government of the City of Appleton who Monday will begin work on what is called the College Avenue Lane Reconfiguration Project (or CALARP for short).
According to officials, the reconfiguration is a “road diet” (and don’t get me started on how stupid that sounds!) and will reduce the number of traffic lanes downtown on College Avenue from four driving lanes, to one driving lane each way.
The city claims the reconfiguration will help to enhance the College Avenue outdoor experience (by letting fewer people experience it), will support local business (by bringing fewer people past their businesses), and create a more welcoming downtown area (by not welcoming as many people to drive on College).
I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but every single person I’ve talked to about has. Every single person! In fact, some of them are downright pissed off.
So,
For launching a project that’s about as unpopular as Magic Johnson at a blood drive.
For creating a situation that has more people imploding than that Titanic submersible.
For apparently having their heads so far up their asses you can’t see an inch of neck.
For coming up with a way to spend tax dollars on something that couldn’t be anymore disliked if it came from Illinois, caused a persistent rectal itch, and knocked on your door at 8am Sunday morning to ask you if you have found the lord.
We are proud to name the City of Appleton Government and their idea for CALARP, the College Avenue Lane Reconfiguration Project, as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show…WEENIES OF THE WEEK.
