In 1972, the Rolling Stones were about to embark on their Exile on Main Street tour, their first tour of the States since the tragedy at their Altamont show. Somebody had the great idea of hiring a filmmaker to shoot behind-the-scenes footage of the band, which already had a reputation for its wild, depraved partying, while on tour. The filmmaker, in turn, gave each member of the band a camera to shoot whatever they wanted.
Their multiple cameras captured Mick Jagger snorting coke, a fair amount of nudity, actual sex, groupies pleasuring themselves and shooting up heroin…oh, and some fantastic concert footage.
When they showed the final movie, entitled C**ksucker Blues, to the band, Keith thought it was fantastic but Mick was convinced that, if released, they would all be arrested.
As a result, the movie was shelved and never released. Bootlegs of the infamous film have been floating around for years and a two-hour edit has been online about 10 years ago.
However, a few weeks ago, to observe the 50th anniversary of the film, somebody posted the entire three-hour version to YouTube.
