While the 1960s may have been filled with hippies saying all you need is love it was the time of civil rights, race riots, and turmoil in the political landscape. In Detroit, there was an aggressive rock band called MC5 who were taking part in some of the civil arrest and even performed at the Democratic National Convention in 1969. Due to their more aggressive take on rock n’ roll songs and their social convictions, MC5 is credited in a lot of circles for being the first true punk band and they were led by guitarist Wayne Kramer. This past Friday Wayne passed away at the age of 75 after a fight with pancreatic cancer.
If you’re going to celebrate the life of one of rock’s greatest characters then you have to do so with this 3 song set from 1970 in Detroit.
