We’re not sure what Minnesota Twins’ centerfielder Byron “Buck” Buxton thinks of sausages in general but after an incident at American Family Insurance Field Tuesday, its safe to say he’s much more aware of the bratwurst.
Had this turned into an actual accident causing injury, it would’ve fallen into the pantheon of stupid baseball accidents/injuries – fortunately it did not.
In an almost tragic man vs. sausage incident at Am Fam Field during the Milwaukee Brewers’ home opener, Minnesota Twins centerfielder, Byron Buxton, was nearly run over by one of the famous Racing Sausages – the beloved German Bratwurst.
The bratwurst (“Brat” to his friends) had the inside lane during the bottom of the 6th inning spectacle, when an unaware Byron Buxton decided to back out of the Twins’ dugout (rookie mistake) unaware of the speeding sausage bearing down on him.
Showcasing his superior athleticism, Buxton, nimbly avoids the crushing collision before the brat’s momentum lederhose’d them both.
This incident reminds me of an old Germanic proverb: Keep Your Eyes on Your Brat and Your Head on a Swivel.
May that advice serve you well.
