MADISON, Wis–Three attorneys accused of orchestrating “fake electors” in the 2020 Presidential election in Wisconsin are now facing criminal charges. The state Department of Justice is charging Kenneth Chesebro, who lists an address in Puerto Rico, James Troupis of Cross Plains, and Michael Roman of Philadelphia with Forgery in Dane County Court.

The Republican Party submitted a slate of “alternate electors” who would cast votes for former President Donald Trump in the Electoral College, even though President Joe Biden won the popular vote in the state. Roman and Chesebro have been charged in a similar scheme in Georgia, while Troupis settled a civil lawsuit stemming from the scheme, promising not to serve as an elector ever again.
All three will make their initial appearances on September 19th. They would face up to six years in prison if convicted. None of the actual “fake electors” have been charged.
