This is the way… if you’ve got a cool $500K+ hanging around.
A mint example of Kenner’s notoriously-rare Boba Fett action figure with “rocket-firing” action—never released to the public – after being deemed a choking hazard—commanded a jawa-dropping sum at a recent Heritage auction.
The bounty for the bounty hunter action figure … $525,000!
I remember mailing away for the Boba Fett figure when I was 8 years old. The anticipation of going to the mail box every day for months and then and when I got it, the “rocket-firing action” was nothing of the sort. It was a bummer for myself and other Star Wars-obsessed kids at the time – but understandable with the perspective that 47 years brings.
According to a Heritage Auctions press release,
“…its price more than doubled the record for the most expensive Star Wars action figure sold at auction, held by a rocket-firing Boba Fett that realized $236,000 in June 2022.”
That is why this figure is considered the crown jewel of unproduced toys.
This latest sale featured one of the only two surviving examples of a hand-painted version of the never-released, circa-1979 figure that only exists today because someone at Kenner (smartly) rescued it from a box of discarded toys deposited there for employees to take home.
