Portland Police had their collective hands full this week when street racers tried to organize a “take over the streets” event promoted on social media.
It didn’t go great.
The police seized at least 10 vehicles Saturday and early Sunday including a Chevy Camaro dressed up as the Batmobile.
Police said in an Aug. 4 announcement,
“As expected, hundreds of people attempted to establish large scale street takeovers, but were quickly broken up by law enforcement officers working together in a highly successful multi-agency street racing suppression mission,”
Suppressed indeed. At least 47 traffic stops were made, at least 11 people were arrested, and at least 10 cars were towed.
Police did not identify the driver of the Camaro, but said it was definitely “not Batman.”
