We are proud to name as this week’s Laura Lee & Cutter Weenie of the Week, the unnamed motorist in Whitefish Bay who tempted fate and lost by driving around a road closure sign, causing a sinkhole.
We can only imagine this is the type of person who jaywalks on a regular basis, or if they have a dog, certainly doesn’t pick up after it because it takes a certain kind of “the rules don’t apply to me” attitude to drive up to a road closed sign and then proceed to drive around it.
Now maybe they didn’t see any reason they couldn’t proceed. There was nothing in the roadway, no flooding.. So what’s the problem? Well, the problem was that earlier in the day, there was a water main break which made the road unstable. DPW crews put up road closed signs while they resolved the issue.
So, back to our road rebel, who clearly didn’t have time for a detour, drove past the signage and shortly thereafter, their front passenger tire got stuck in a pothole. That hole continued to expand until a good chunk of the hood was swallowed up in the asphalt. The vehicle then had to be winched out by a tow company. Later on, that had to be a fun phone call to the insurance company, but I’m willing to bet they blamed everyone but themselves.
So for unintentionally taking a detour to their final destination through middle earth, for being the type of person who probably treats stop signs as “optional” and for failing to recognize just how deep Milwaukee potholes are (seriously, toss a quarter in one and make a wish) we are proud to name the Whitefish Bay submerged in a Sinkhole sedan scofflaw as this week’s Laura Lee & Cutter Weenie of the Week.
