We are proud to name as this week’s Laura Lee and Cutter Weenie of the Week, President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, Ed Policy.
The Green Bay Packers have always been different. Publicly owned. Community rooted. The last team in the NFL that doesn’t answer to some billionaire who made his fortune inventing an app that tracks your refrigerator. And Lambeau Field? Besides the Bears and Chiefs, are one of the last holdouts to not give up their stadium name. (side note Chiefs have sold naming rights to the playing field but not the stadium. Nothing says “historic football cathedral” like a corporate logo the size of a tractor.
Can you imagine?
Kwik Trip Eternal Rewards Points Field… Every first down earns you 3 cents off unleaded and a glazer.
Policy basically admitted the quiet part out loud, the Packers are one of the last teams without naming rights, and financially, that might not be sustainable forever. Translation “We held out as long as we could, but have you seen how much money everyone else is making?” And he’ll sell it to us like.. It’s still Lambeau, just presented by something. Yea ok, just like I’m still me… I’m just presented by coffee and questionable decisions. And look, we get it. There’s money on the table. BIG money. The rest of the league is cashing checks, and the Packers are sitting there like…no thanks, we have tradition. The problem is, once you sell the name, you don’t get it back.
So for being ready to give up the name faster than your first crush after you promised them you loved them and you’d be together forever. For wanting to turn historic Lambeau Field into the Culver’s Cutter Butter zone or the Hidden Valley Ranch Bowl, and for acting like every other Bond villain owner.
We are proud to name the still not as bad as other presidents packer president, “What’s the policy?” Ed Policy
As this week’s Laura Lee and Cutter weenie of the week.
