In my experiences, seagulls don’t need prompting from anyone to become aggressive – especially if food’s involved.
Well, a recent incident in Oban, Scotland flipped the script (or the bird in this case) and found seagulls as the innocent victims of human aggression.
From the Oban Times:
Oban police have charged a man after he grabbed two live seagulls and used them to assault someone in the street outside the railway station there. The incident took place in Queens Park Place on Saturday, June 27, but the circumstances of the assault haven’t been reported. The Oban Times posts that the man was not arrested at the scene but was instead “conveyed home while further enquiries were carried out” and only later charged.
Police haven’t explained exactly how the birds were involved (I assume it was as ‘num-chuk’ style weaponry) but the good news is that the seagulls were not injured.
Legendary film director Alfred Hitchcock did warn us in “The Birds” that where seagulls are concerned… it could always be worse.
