The Deer Calling World Championship in Dortmund, Germany is held during the annual Jagd & Hund trade fair. There, human hunters (actual deer are banned from competition) compete by recreating the calls of red stags with striking precision made even more impressive as some contestants are basically throat-piping a wooden tube.
The contestants/hunters use simple tools like horns, shells, and handcrafted devices, they mimic everything from young deer to dominant males during rutting season – which sound unsettling like my late father getting out of his Lazy Boy.
It’s not just performance — it’s a preservation of skill, instinct, and a deep connection to nature that has survived centuries.
