Some people call an Uber. Some people call a friend. And then there’s 36-year-old Emily Fair, who allegedly decided the best way to get around Pleasant Prairie was to climb into a fire department pickup, turn on the emergency lights and take it for a little spin…while completely naked.
According to police, Fair allegedly took the truck from a Pleasant Prairie fire station shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday. She then drove around with the emergency lights flashing, presumably giving the impression that something very important was happening.
And, technically, something very important WAS happening. Someone had apparently decided that stealing an emergency vehicle while naked was a perfectly reasonable use of a Tuesday morning.
Things got even more bizarre when dispatchers reportedly began hearing Fair over the radio. At one point, she allegedly asked whether anyone had food.
Police eventually located the truck about an hour later near a Department of Public Works garage. Fair was still sitting behind the wheel and, according to authorities, still wearing absolutely nothing.
When an officer confronted her with the obvious question, essentially, WHY ARE YOU NAKED? Fair reportedly said she was supposed to be meeting someone. Sounds reasonable I suppose…
Police reportedly found Fair’s dress in the bed of the truck, suggesting that at some point she had been dressed and then apparently decided the evening had reached the point where clothing was no longer necessary.
Fair has been charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
In the end, she didn’t put out any fires. The only thing she managed to put out that night was everyone’s remaining faith in good decision-making.
