Oreo has made a chicken-flavored cookie…
Not chicken-shaped. Not a cookie served alongside fried chicken. Not some limited-edition box with a picture of a drumstick on it.
The cookie itself tastes like fried chicken.
On July 31, Oreo China launched a limited-edition collaboration with KFC, turning the fast-food chain’s Original Recipe fried chicken into an Oreo sandwich cookie. Because apparently somebody sat in a meeting, looked at a chocolate sandwich cookie and said, “You know what would improve this? Chicken.”
The KFC Oreo is designed to recreate the salty, seasoned flavor of fried chicken, which raises the only question that matters:
Who asked for this?
Who woke up one morning and thought, “I want an Oreo, but I also want the unmistakable experience of licking fried chicken seasoning off my fingers”?
Who looked at the entire universe of possible cookie flavors and submitted KFC Original Recipe?
There is something deeply impressive about taking fried chicken, a food whose entire appeal involves crispy skin, hot meat and aggressive seasoning and deciding the best way to preserve that experience is to put it between two chocolate cookies.
Oreo has officially crossed the line from “creative flavor development” into “Who gave these people a laboratory?”
