Last week veteran player, two-time World Series MVP, and long-time nice guy of MLB Ben Zobrist was ejected for the first time in 1,563 career games. Bad call by the ump followed by a too-clever response by Zo’ led to both he and Cubs’ manager Joe Madden getting the boot.
Which led me down the internet rabbit hole of my favorite baseball manager tirades… against umpires, against the team, against the press, or against the fans. Get ready for some NSFW language.
Wally Backman, manger for the South Georgia Peanuts and a former New York Mets second baseman, can have a temper. He was not happy with this umpire.
Oh, don’t think Wally only rants at the umps. When the team isn’t pulling its weight, they get it too.
And after finding these videos online, I have to share some of my other favorite all-time baseball manager rants.
Tommy Lasorda on Kurt Bevacqua:
Bryan Price drops 77 F-bombs in 5 minutes:
Hal McRae loses it:
And my ALL-TIME favorite – Chicago Cubs manager Lee Elia ranting about Cubs fans. He was not kind.
